This is an hour-long weekly program offered to students in the Seminole County Juvenile Detention Center. The program began in January 2016 and the goal is to involve the students in a moment of peace. The yoga practice includes breath control, simple meditation, and specific bodily postures. An inspirational reading concludes each practice.
The students in this facility are being held for judgment by the juvenile court system or they are awaiting placement in a foster home or other facility. The need for activities that help these students remain calm and centered is extremely important. We are happy to spend two hours at the facility—one hour for the girls and one hour for the boys. This practice is provided free of charge by a qualified yoga instructor.
